St. Vincent Ferrer Church is a Roman Catholic church located in Presentacion, Camarines Sur, Philippines.

History

The old name of the town was called Parubcan. It was carved out of Lagonoy through Republic Act No. 3421 on June 18, 1961. It was renamed Presentacion by virtue of Republic Act No. 5742 on June 21, 1969.

The church was established as a Chaplaincy of Parubcan by Most Reverend Francisco Reyes, D.D., bishop of then Diocese of Caceres, on October 3, 1936. It was canonically erected as a parish by Most Reverend Pedro Santos, D.D., on November 27, 1938. Its establishment was aimed to spread the Catholic faith in an area known to have many believers of Iglesia Filipina Independiente (Aglipayans).

Its first parish priest was Fr. Ismael Real, who began the church-building works and construction of the rectory. The church stands a property that was donated by Juan Dialogo to the diocese.

The church as seen today was built in 1976 during the stint of Fr. Romeo Pachica. It was constructed in the present location and it was finished during the time of Fr. Jose Valeros. More improvements were carried out by Fr. Arkie Caceres.

Moreover, Fr. Nicolas Asis led the the devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia in the parish in 1952. During the feast day, the community participated in a foot procession on the riverbanks of Mangas. The procession by the sea of the patroness along with the statue of St. Vincent Ferrer was introduced by Fr. Arkie Caceres in 1985.

The spiritual care of the parish was handed over to the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT) in June 1997. Fr. Reynalod Clutario was the first parish priest of the religious order.

Its cemetery was built on a lot donated by the heirs of Casiano Lopo and Dalmacia Royo.

Architecture

The church’s front wall has minimal embellishments, which are found prominently by the entryway. The faithful walks up a short flight of stairs to the threshold of the church. Its rectilinear entrance door has a pointed arch lunette and an elaborate archivolt bearing the name of the parish; a portico is also built that is supported by fluted columns. A five-story bell tower is attached to the church in the epistle side.

Celebration

The feast of St. Vincent Ferrer is May 17.

The parish office is open 8:00-11:30 AM and 2:00-5:00 PM from Tuesday to Sunday.
