History
Maayon was part of the town of Pontevedra. It was made into a separate municipality by virtue of Republic Act No. 1203 that was signed into law by President Ramon Magsaysay on March 30, 1955.
Its church’s titular is the Holy Child.
Architecture
RDG Ecclesiastical Architecture did the works for its renovation, creating a Gothic-inspired facade. Pinnacles adorned with crocket erupt from piers, its entrance door features an intricate frontispiece (of trefoils, quatrefoils, six-lobed rosettes, pointed arches), and gablets are featured in its entryways. Above the side doors and the rose window in the pediment are glazed glass windows. The image of the Holy Child is found high above the front wall, which is decorated by cross-tipped trim.
Celebration
The feast of the Holy Child is every last Saturday of January.
