History
Accounts in the 17th century have mentioned a settlement that existed in Pulupandan. Its name is derived from pulo sang pandan (island of pandan) owing from palms that grew in large numbers.
Previously a part of Valladolid, Pulupandan became a town in 1899 and an important sea port.
Its church was founded in 1932.
Architecture
The skyblue-and-white church is typified by lines, angles, and squares. The columns supporting the three-gabled portico may be the exemption to the linearity of its facade.
By the pediment a tower rises that is a busy, concrete accretion of pilasters, rectilinear moldings, and decorative square bands. In place of a cast bell is a megaphone, and crosses are found in the uppermost part of the tower and atop the portico.
Celebration
The feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is every February 15 and celebration is called Salapan Festival.
