History
According to oral tradition, the settlement was inhabited as early as the 18th century. It was Puro and then later Tabucan, a word derived from the act of crossing. Moro pirates ravaged the community particularly in stealing the church bell, and ruins of watch tower are a reminder of this troubled past.
The church was erected by the Augustinians as a visita of Basey Parish and dedicated to the patronage of St. Rita of Cascia, after whom the town was renamed. It separated from Basey and became a parish on January 2, 1864.
Celebration
The feast day of St. Rita of Cascia is May 15 and the town celebrates the Patiklos Festival.
