History

The mother parish of Borbon Church was Sogod Church. It became a parish on September 15, 1862.

Architecture

The church is a contemporary structure. One can enter its interiors through the covered walkway, a porte-cochere, that rises to just one level of wide arches and a parapet built on its roof. On its eaves in front is the name, “St. Sebastian Parish Church”.

The facade of the church itself is of two levels divided by a plain molding. The upper register is the pediment made of three sections bounded by twin pilasters, the middle section pierced with a radius window that is larger than the windows of similar style flanking it. Above it is a signage of channel letters, “Sn. Sebastian Martyr Parish Church.” The pediment is outlined by decorative finials and crockets. In the ground level, the entrance door is flanked by open arch windows.

The steeple is built on the roof and the highest point of the structure. It is polyhedral in shape and pierced by open arches with balustrade. It is roofed by a pyramidal spire that is decorated by blind gable roof protruding from each side.

Celebration

San Sebastian Church is dedicated to the patronage of St. Sebastian, martyr, in a celebration called Silmugi Festival. Organized in 2009, the yearly festival is named after a town river and celebrated every January 20.
