History
Panglao appeared in historical records for the first time in 1612, yet the date of its founding is unclear because of the uncertainty surrounding its status either as the origin or a part of the nearby town of Dauis.
Its church became a parish in 1803. The stone church was built by the Augustinian Recollects beginning in 1894, but its construction was stopped because of the Philippine Revolution. Church-building resumed in 1912.
It was consecrated on August 31, 1924 by Most Reverend Juan Gorordo, Bishop of Cebu. The facade was built by Fr. Quiterio Sarigumba in 1925. The paintings in the ceiling were accomplished around 1920s and 1930s.
The church suffered damages during an earthquake on October 15, 2013. The National Museum of the Philippines undertook restoration completed on December 13, 2017.
