History
The mission station in upland sitio of Maomawan in the village of Babag II was under the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe de Cebu. It was established in 2014 under the patronage of St. John Mary Vianney.
Years later, it became an independent parish in a canonical erection on August 8, 2021, a date that was also the patronal feast day, presided by Archbishop Jose Palma with co-celebrants Bishop Antonio Ranola, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Cebu, and Msgr. Renato Beltran, PC Chancellor.
Additionally, its patron was changed to Our Lady of Guadalupe de Cebu and St. John Mary Vianney became the secondary patron saint. Thus, from St. John Mary Vianney Quasi-Parish, the church was referred henceforth as Birhen sa Guadalupe sa Sugbo Parish.
Architecture
The church is sparse of decoration and utilitarian in appearance. Its facade is an open church wall with steel grille. The nave walls are half-concrete and half-metal grille. The apex of the roof, which is corrugated iron sheets, is topped with a lighted cross.
