History

Ronda Church was part of the parish of Dumanjug. It became a parish in June 17, 1881. The old name of Ronda was Holoyaw or Huluyaw, either from the shouts of fleeing villagers at the sight of invading sea raiders or a species of plants that were prolific in the area.

Its present name has various possible origins too. First, it may come from a city in Spain whose landscape of being in the foothills of two mountain ranges it resembles or the fact that Spaniards conducted patrols to intercept freedom fighters and fugitives.

Architecture

Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Ronda has a portico in front of a well-tended lawn. Its arches are supported by four Doric columns and on its roof a dome. The entrance door is likewise arched and is flanked by recessed arches. The rest of the facade has a triad of arch windows of stained glass, the middle one larger than the other two. Above them is a modified quatrefoil stained glass window opening. The pediment is adorned cornice and white decorative trimming and it rises to an apex of a cross.

The entire facade is flanked by bell towers of dissimilar design. The gospel side has a continuous pierced wall while the other has two separate ones. Their belfries are octagonal, interspersed with arch openings, and capped with pyramidal roofs.

Celebration

The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is held every September 15th in a celebration called Panginabuhi Festival.
