The Augustinians approved the request and they sent Fr. Francisco Porras to Mambusao in 1607. As an iglesia matriz, it counted several churches as visita including those in Jagnaya, Jamindan, and Sigma.
In its recent history, it was declared an archdiocesan shrine through the efforts of parish priest Fr. Jose Arturo Emilio O. Arbatin and the parish community, and it was approved by Archbishop Victor B. Bendico, D.D., on November 21, 2023. It became the second shrine in the Archdiocese and the entire province of Capiz (the first was Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Shrine in Roxas City).
