History

Tabor Hill is a five-hectare provincial house of the Order of Discalced Augustinian (Ordo Augustiniensium Discalceatorum) in the Philippines established in 1995. It is named after the mountain in Galilee, Israel where the Transfiguration of Jesus took place.

It houses the Tabor Hill College-OAD, seminary, retreat house, the life-sized Station of the Cross, grottoes of Our Lady of Consolation and Our Lady of Lourdes, oratories of St. Rita and Our Lady of Manaoag, Fatima Garden, Adoration Chapel, columbary, farm, and the Chapel of Holy Relics.

Fund-raising activities for the construction of the Chapel of Holy Relics and the retreat house occurred in 2000.

The chapel was established in 2012. It is famed as a repository of over 4,000 relics and religious objects, of which over 2,000 were donated by the Vatican. These sacred items consist of garments, remains, artifacts, and other items of saints or straight from biblical narratives.

The chapel’s holy treasures began as a personal collection of Fr. Denniz Ruiz, OAD. He began collecting sacred objects while he studying for a graduate degree in the cultural heritage and history of the Church from the Gregorian Pontifical University in Rome and working at the Office of the Relics in the Vicariate of Rome. The first relics he acquired as gifts were of St. Augustine and his mother, St. Monica.

The chapel is a popular destination particularly during Lent and Holy Week. In 2022, it was one of the spots of the Highland Pilgrimage Tour organized by the Cebu City Tourism Commission.

It can be reached by taking a jeepney ride from Cebu City to Talamban Gym and a motorcycle ride (habal-habal) or on foot to Tabor Hill.

Celebration

The feast day of St. Rita of Cascia is every May 22.

Services

The chapel is open between 5:00 AM and 9:00 PM.

According to the Latin Mass Community of Cebu, Latin Mass is heard at 1:00 PM every Sunday.
