History
The old name of the town of La Paz is Cabadyangan, so-called after a river. It was settled by natives who resisted foreign rule imposed during the colonial period. Beginning in 1876, more people from Burauen moved to the place, cleared the wilderness, and began cultivating crops from its fertile lands.
A church was established in 1886 and it was placed under the invocation of Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje. Over time, Cabadyangan was called after its patroness, La Paz.
Through the efforts of Capitan Estefanio de Paz, La Paz became a town in 1918. It is also the same year that the church became a parish.
Architecture
A renovation was undertaken in 2011 that expanded the church with the addition of side extensions. Its bell tower is erected in the gospel side, and both the tower and the facade are embellished with pierced wall. The quadrangular base of the tower gives way to finials and octagonal belfry decorated with gablets and crowned with angular roof.
The facade is decorated with dentil and punctured with pointed arches. Its entrance is covered by an overhang.
Celebration
The feast of Nuestra Señora de la Paz y del Buen Viaje is every April 28.
