History
The settlement in Ilog was called Jima in pre-Hispanic times. Its church is one of the earliest churches founded in Negros island, along with Binalbagan and Tanjay.
Historical records of 1584 stated the Augustinians established the church with the titular Nuestra Señora de la Encarnacion.
However, it was abandoned because of difficulties faced by the mission in 1586 and it was given up to the secular clergy. The Jesuits re-established Christianity in 1630.
Then the Augustinian Recollects took over in 1889.
Despite the long years of Christianity, there is no colonial-era church that exists today.
Architecture
The concrete church has an extended eave in the facade that provides shelter to a shallow open space before the recessed entrance.
The name of the parish is spelled out in the fascia, upon which twin columns rise and are conjoined to form a simple belfry on which a bell hangs.
The pediment is made of glass windows of geometric designs.
Celebration
The feast day of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is every December 8.
