History
It was during the time of the Jesuits that the church of Bobon was founded. By 1696, it shared a priest with Catarman Parish. It was taken over by the Franciscans when the Jesuits left in 1768.
It is said that the Jesuits laid the foundation of the stone church and the Franciscans built over the rest of the structure. The house of worship was completed in 1892.
The church also functioned as a stronghold where people sought refuge within its thick, strong walls during catastrophic attacks initiated by the Moro raiders. The tolling of the bells also warned the people from the impending assault so they had time to flee to safety.
Architecture
The present-day Baroque church is a fusion of colonial-era edifice and improvements carried out throughout its history as evinced by concrete elements in its walls, doorway jamb, and engaged columns. The pilasters on the pediment are where the angels with blaring trumpets are installed. The niche of the Holy Child is also found in the pediment flanked by twin oculi. Decorative finials and eyelets are found on the front wall as well. The bell tower is in the gospel side.
Celebration
The feast day of the Most Holy Name of Jesus is August 10. The church is also a site for the devotion to the black Sto. Niño (resembling Sto. Niño de Cebu of Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño) whose feast day is every second week of January in a town-wide celebration called Agta Festival.
