Mary Queen of Angels Church is a Roman Catholic and Marian church located in Can-Avid, Eastern Samar, Philippines.

History
Once the Jesuits arrived in Samar in early 17th century, they founded villages where natives in far-away areas relocated to build their homes near one another. One such village was Jubasan. It was home to people who lived at the mouth of Can-avid River, which was also named Ulot River or Loquilocon River. This body of water was an important passageway for traveling to the western side of the island.
The people of Jubasan and Bacod threw their support in the revolt led by Agustin Sumoroy of Palapag fort in 1649. The Spaniards defeated them, and as a result the village of Jubasan was abandoned.
The natives who fled from the local revolt moved to the eastern part of the settlement called Paric. On account of its rapid growth, Paric was made into a visita of Tubig (present-day the municipality of Taft). After the Jesuits left in 1768, the Franciscans took over and they recommended for Paric to become a parish as early as 1839. Thus in preparation, several structures were constructed such as rectory, school, and stone church.
Colonial and religious leaders of Tubig sent a petition to allow the separation of Paric and be made into an independent town on August 31, 1863. It was approved through a Royal Decree issued on April 5, 1864 and the Governor General Rafael Echague also released a Superior decree on June 16, 1864.
The church of Paric was made into a parish through a decree signed by the head of the Diocese of Cebu, Bishop Benito de Madridejos, on April 20, 1878. It was dedicated to the invocation of St. Joachim and Franciscan priest Fr. Jose del Olmo, OFM, was appointed by the bishop as the first parish priest.
Unfortunately, the town suffered from recurring floods from the Ulot River. The pueblo was also gradually diminished due to the collapse of the banks into the river. The town center was transferred to Dolores (so-named after the river) in 1887 and Dolores later became a pueblo.
Other people who remained in Paric moved to a village near the mouth of Ulot River. This settlement grew to become Maria Angeles, and its church was placed under the patronage of Mary Queen of Angels. The original settlement would later be known as Binungtoan, meaning “a place that was once a town.”
The name of Maria Angeles was changed to Victoria at the height of the Philippine Revolution against the Spaniards towards the end of the 19th century. Later on, Victoria was renamed Canabid.
The town was established by virtue of Republic Act No. 264 approved on June 15, 1948 and the proclamation took place July 4, 1948. Its lands were formerly of the municipality of Dolores such as Can-avid, Carolina, Barok, Cansangaya, Mabuhay, Camantang, Canilay, Pandol and Balagon.
Mary Queen of Angels Church became a parish on July 10, 1954 during the time when Most Reverend Miguel Acebedo was the Bishop of the Diocese of Calbayog. The bishop appointed Fr. Clodualdo Arcales as itfirst parish priest.
Architecture
The church underwent reconstruction in the 21st century. It has an arch overhang by the entrance, and its facade is made of layers of walls of dissimilar heights. Above the entrance is the shallow niche of the patroness. And its pediment is topped with a cross.
Celebration
The feast day of Mary Queen of Angels is August 2.
