Espousal of Our Lady Church is a Marian church located in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, Iloilo, Philippines.

History

The history of the church began as a visita of the parish church of Jaro. It became an independent parish in 1921.

However, its history goes back to the Spanish period. Mandurriao as a visita under the Augustinian friars existed in the 17th century. It was handed over to the Jesuits, then later to the Dominicans in 1768, and back to the Augustinians. Its colonial-era church, cemetery, and other structures did not survive the destruction of the Second World War.

A house of worship was built made from humble materials in post-war period. Reconstruction took place in the intervening years that led to a dedication of the church in 1959.

By 1985, a new church was envisioned. Building works commenced in 1991 of a church designed by Engr. Timoteo Jusayan that was modified by Engr. Ermelo Porras and Architect Rolando Siendo. It was inaugurated on February 21, 1998 and construction was completed two years later.

Architecture

The churchyard has a footpath leading to the portico that is flanked by semicircular gardens where the images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (gospel) and the Immaculate Heart of Mary stand, respectively.

The facade has a brick-tile surface. A balustrade divides the portico (with an archway) and its pediment (punctured with an arch window). The facade is flanked by two bell towers. Their bases are pierced with round and arch openings, the other two floors with arch punctures, and they are capped with pyramidal roofs.

Celebration

The feast of the Espousal of Our Lady is celebrated every November 26.

Services

The parish office is open from 8:00 to 11:30 in the morning and from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon daily except Mondays and holidays.

Baptism is scheduled at 11:00 in the morning every Saturday.

For the sacrament of matrimony, pre-Cana seminar is scheduled every first Saturday of the month.

Novena schedules are at 5:15 in the afternoon every Wednesday and Friday.
